What does the Flipped Classroom look like? - YouTube playlist of videos

Steps to Think Through

1. What will you record?  What lessons will the students view?

  •     Record your lecture content that you would have given in class.  You can use a Power Point

Presentation, Document camera, SmartBoard capture, content from the textbook, take a photo and record

            over that, etc.

2. How will you record it?

Activity A - Create a short video showing students how to add 2 numbers using the online whiteboard AWW  or a tutorial on how to use Tagxedo word cloud creator.

               Show Me

               Screen Chomp

               EduCreations

Knowmia Teach - Tutorial Video - More features which makes it a bit more technical

               Ask3

Explain Everything - Paid app - More features - Videos must be uploaded to hosting site like YouTube or Vimeo

Activity B - Use the Educreations app to create a short lesson about an exotic Australian animal.  First choose an animal

from this Unique Australian Animals website.  Then open up a new Educreation lesson and search for an image of

your animal.  Insert the image into your project and record a few facts about your animal that you learned on the

website.  Post your Educreations to our Edmodo group.

3. How will the students watch the videos?

  •      For homework on a PC or Mobile Device  - You can burn a DVD for those without access to a computer or device.
  •      Assign questions or a problem after viewing to hold students accountable.
  •     In class on mobile device or computer - This allows students to work at their own pace.
  •     Project the video at the beginning of class to all students

4. Where will I post the video lessons?

5. Students can use the apps to create their own lessons, tutorials and presentations

Activity C

Think about topics that you teach that will benefit from the Flipped Classroom approach. Choose one subject and create a few video lessons to teach this topic. You can use one or more of the screencasting apps or websites that we discussed this morning. When you finish, upload the video link or embed the video in our Edmodo group to share with the class. You may want to try adding in a quiz or poll in Edmodo to go with it.  Here are a few ideas you can use.

Religion - Teach the Triduum with Screencast-o-matic or Screenr - Open a word document and paste in 3 photos that go with the Triduum.  Label the photos and record yourself giving a short explanation of each one.

Math - Use one of the free apps to teach a new concept like multiplication of double digits, rounding to the nearest hundred or telling time.  Record yourself explaining problems as you solve them.

English - Teach the difference between 2 parts of speech like common nouns and proper nouns using ShowMe.

Technology Class - Use Screencast-o-matic or Screenr to make a tutorial for using a website like Wordle or Blabberize

Science - Use one of the free apps to explain the difference between herbivore, carnivore and omnivore

Social Studies - Use Educreations to teach the 3 Branches of Government.  Find a picture of each of the buildings associated with the 3 branches.  As you display each photo, record yourself telling about the function of each branch and the people who work there.

Teach us something that you know how to do like cook, play a game, drive a car, etc.
